#Opsmanage More Open and Powerful SimSci-Esscor ROMeo Optimisation Software

Open OPC-UA connectivity, integrated analytics and proven simulation drive operational excellence for the refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries

Invensys Operations Management has announced the release of a more powerful version of its SimSci-Esscor® ROMeo® optimisation software. Version 6.0 incorporates four new refinery process models that simulate and optimise reforming, coking, isomerisation and visbreaking units. The software also contains several new capabilities, including the ability to openly share information using the Object Linking & Embedding for Process Control-Unified Architecture standard. The OPC-UA standard allows the ROMeo software to communicate with many of the company’s simulation and workforce enablement offerings, including its DYNSIM, PRO/II and ArchestrA Workflow software, as well any third-party product that also uses the OPC-UA standard.

“Implementing these standards and including new process models reinforces our commitment to providing the open technology solutions our customers need to achieve operational excellence,”
said Harpreet Gulati, director of design and optimisation at Invensys Operations Management. “Our SimSci-Esscor ROMeo software allows refiners to improve crude selection, evaluate crude supply and reliably predict refinery yields and qualities, as well as determine the potential for improving yields of higher-value products. In addition, by integrating it with our Wonderware Intelligence enterprise manufacturing intelligence software, which enhances the ability to analyse real-time plant operating data, the ROMeo software allows plant personnel to make informed decisions that reduce operating costs, increase throughput and maximise profit.”

An integrated online and offline optimisation solution for the refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries, the SimSci-Esscor ROMeo optimisation software handles equipment monitoring, utilities optimisation and material balance in open- or closed-loop mode. It can use or be used with any application that communicates via OPC-UA, including other SimSci-Esscor simulation software applications like PRO/II and DYNSIM. Working in a Microsoft Windows environment and strengthened by its integration with Wonderware Intelligence enterprise manufacturing intelligence software, the new ROMeo software release allows users to build upon and unite existing automation and IT systems with technology applications from Invensys, its ecosystem partners and other third-party providers so they function as one, holistic Enterprise Control System.

“The journey towards real-time business optimisation begins by taking full advantage of existing automation systems, in combination with innovative software applications, like SimSci-Esscor ROMeo, that support a fully empowered workforce,” Gulati said. “Including new refinery process models extends the software’s reach so that additional pieces of important equipment can be optimised. This can help enhance the bottom line of any company and speed their journey toward operational excellence.”

Representatives from Invensys Operations Management will display and demonstrate the ROMeo optimisation software during the company’s OpsManage’11 events, taking place at the CNIT La Defense Conference Center in Paris, France, November 3-4, and November 8 to 10 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
Additional OpsManage’11 conferences will be held November 14 to 16 in Queensland, Australia; November 15 in Tokyo; November 20 and 21 in the United Arab Emirates; November 24 in Seoul, South Korea; December 9 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and December 14 in Mumbai, India.
