#Hannover Beckhoff: comprehensive offering of solutions

At the main booth, Beckhoff is presenting its complete range of products and solutions for PC- and EtherCAT-based control technology as well as a special show on the subject of  “25 years of PC Control – a revolution in automation technology”. (They also have a stand in the Wind trade fair  Hall 27!)

High-precision measuring terminals
For measuring applications, Beckhoff is presenting high-precision terminals for the EtherCAT I/O system. The low measuring error improves the quality of the signal acquisition. The high resolution improves control quality, particularly if the smallest deviations are to be compensated accurately. New items are high-precision thermocouple and weighing terminals. The energy monitoring range is extended by a new power measurement terminal and the high-voltage oversampling terminal.

The new IPC generation with multi-core CPUs
The basis for Scientific Automation is the constantly increasing performance of PC processors. This allows a central PC controller to assume extra tasks in addition to the classic PLC and motion assignments. On the hardware side, the new Beckhoff CB3054 motherboard offers the basis for a new IPC performance class: from the compact PC to the IP 65 Panel PC. The 3½-inch motherboard was developed exclusively for multi-core processors.

Highly dynamic tracking
With TwinCAT Kinematic Transformation software robots can be also implemented in software directly on the PC controller. The kinematics for Cartesian portal, shear, roller (H-Bot), 2-D parallel and 3-D delta are extended by a first 6-axis kinematics on the basis of cables. With the integrated tracking algorithms, parts on moving conveyor belts can be simply followed and picked up by the robot at a suitable point in time.

Real-time simulation with TwinCAT 3
On the software side, TwinCAT 3 provides advanced options for the simulation of machines and plants. The direction already taken with the ‘TwinCAT Simulation Manager’ of saving costs by reduced commissioning with the aid of simulation is consistently continued here by the integration of Matlab®/
Simulink®. This allows the simple creation and testing of machine and plant simulations in real-time with the PLC and Motion.
Matlab®/Simulink® is also ideally suited for the design and optimisation of controllers and filters.

Universal engineering concept and scalable safety runtime

TwinSAFE!

In TwinSAFE, Beckhoff offers a safety solution that is scalable in terms of both software and hardware. A 100 % software solution is available in TwinCAT Safety PLC. With a safety PLC running on the Industrial PC, the same performance that is available for the standard controller can also be used for the safety technology.

TwinCAT 3 also contains a new engineering concept for safety applications, which increases flexibility through the free choice of programming languages: in addition to the familiar function block diagram language (FBD), programming can also be accomplished in the high-level language C.

The servo drive in the EtherCAT Terminal
The EL7201 servo terminal for the Beckhoff EtherCAT Terminal system integrates a complete servo drive for motors up to 200 W into a standard terminal housing. The new AM3100 servo motor series is optimised for the use of the servo terminal in a power range from 50 to 130 W. With the servo terminal, the range of Beckhoff servo drives becomes even more finely scalable: from the miniature servo drive up to the AX5000 EtherCAT drive series with up to 120 kW.
